The Shadow of a Petal // Floral Design Inside the County Jail

Please join us for the opening night of ð˜›ð˜ð˜Œ ð˜šð˜ð˜ˆð˜‹ð˜–𘞠ð˜–ð˜ 𘈠ð˜—ð˜Œð˜›ð˜ˆð˜“: ð˜ð˜“ð˜–ð˜™ð˜ˆð˜“ ð˜‹ð˜Œð˜šð˜ð˜Žð˜• ð˜ð˜•ð˜šð˜ð˜‹ð˜Œ ð˜›ð˜ð˜Œ ð˜Šð˜–ð˜œð˜•ð˜›ð˜ ð˜‘ð˜ˆð˜ð˜“ on July 11th from 6-9pm.
The project is centered around a series of Floral Therapy workshops with Chesterfield County Jail’s nationally recognized recovery program, H.A.R.P. (Helping Addicts Recover Progressively), led by horticultural therapist, psychotherapist, and clinical social worker Becca Amos and floral designer Meredith Wheeler of Secret Flowers.
The exhibition features photographs by Amy Robison and Sydnee Schorr including process photography, portraits, and completed floral arrangements. It presents first-hand participant accounts and explores how creative, nature-based interventions can foster emotional expression and individual and collective healing—even in the most restrictive environment. And it invites a broader conversation about the systems that sever people from nature and the possibilities for therapeutic practice in carceral spaces.
100% OF PROCEEDS FROM THIS EXHIBITION WILL BE DONATED TO THE H.A.R.P. RVA RECOVERY PROGRAM. The exhibit is on view July 11th – July 19th.
