Maker's Studio: Imagined Spaces | An Architectural Collage Workshop

Maker's Studio: Imagined Spaces – An Architectural Collage Workshop

Join us for the final Maker’s Studio workshop of 2026: an architectural collage workshop with Art Club RVA that invites participates to take closer look at the spaces around us and consider how they make us feel.

The workshop begins with a short slideshow of unconventional buildings and homes, followed by a discussion about what draws us to a space. Is it the way light comes in? A sense of openness or shelter? You’ll choose a feeling to guide your own imagined place, then try out ways to suggest it with color and shape.

Next, you’ll cut and layer found images to build a collage of a place that doesn’t exist yet. You might borrow from architecture, bring in elements of the natural world, or let the images take you somewhere unexpected.

Tickets include wine, light bites and all materials. Doors open at 5:30pm and the workshop begins promptly at 6pm.

ART CLUB RVA BIO

Art Club RVA is a pop-up creative studio run by Sophia Douris and Joey Korein, that hosts unique art workshops around Richmond. Each event explores a different creative process in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where people can make something with their hands, connect with others, and enjoy a few hours out. Rather than traditional art classes, we consider our workshops curated creative experiences designed to be approachable for complete beginners and inspiring for experienced artists.

Joey Korein has a background in fine art, craft, art education and art therapy. Her current art practice includes ceramics, textiles, collage and painting. She’s a big believer in the restorative power of low-pressure creative spaces where people can make something with their hands alongside strangers and friends.

Sophia Douris studied painting and printmaking at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. For the past ten years she has focused on ceramic art, creating both functional pieces and decorative work. She values the playfulness and relaxation that art encourages, as well as the collaborative, creative atmosphere it fosters.
