Ty Phelps presents Breaking the Lines: Poetry Through Design
Join us at The Branch for the third workshop in the 2026 Maker's Studio series. Led by Richmond writer Ty Phelps, this immersive three-hour workshop explores the intersection of poetry and design.
A poem isn't just written. It's designed.
Ty Phelps, Program Director for James River Writers and former Writer-in-Residence at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, invites participants to experiment with line breaks, white space, and layout to discover how the shape of a poem influences the way it's read. Through guided writing exercises and discussion, you'll see how visual form can shape meaning just as much as the words themselves.
Materials and wine included. No poetry experience needed. Just curiosity.
