Modern Richmond Tour and The Branch Museum of Architecture and Design are pleased to present George Smart, Executive Director of North Carolina Modernist Homes (NCMH) on April 27. Smart is an architectural historian and founder of North Carolina Modernist Homes. NCMH is a nonprofit organization that works to document, preserve, and promote modernist architecture in North Carolina as well as other well-known residences across the country. Since the inception of NCMH in 2007, Smart has built and collected a vast digital archive for modernist architects and architectures comprised of more than 21,000 images. Smart is taking his Mayberry Modernism lecture on the road, discussing exciting and visually fascinating presentations, and visually exploring some of North Carolina’s Modernist gems—the glorious, endangered, and destroyed.
