SUMMARY:(re)Framing Protest (Now): Design + Hope
DESCRIPTION:(re)Framing Protest (NOW) Design + Hope expands on the powerful 2022 show with new programming and a beautifully produced printed catalog. Developed in partnership with Richmond Free Press photojournalists Regina H. Boone and Sandra Sellars\, the exhibition shows how creative expression and design fueled the work of activists\, artists\, and organizers who mobilized during the summer of 2020 to collectively support and amplify the Black Lives Matter movement. Graffiti\, graphic design\, and spontaneous public art became both tools of resistance and acts of reflection—capturing the pain of a city while offering hope and healing. \nThe (re)Framing Protest (NOW): Design + Hope catalog\, designed by April Coleman\, Vice President of Production at the Richmond Free Press\, features expanded text from the original exhibition by writer and creative strategist Nichole Christian\, deepening the exhibition’s impact\, continued relevance\, and narrative. \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Shadow of a Petal // Floral Design Inside the County Jail
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the opening night of 𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘚𝘏𝘈𝘋𝘖𝘞 𝘖𝘍 𝘈 𝘗𝘌𝘛𝘈𝘓: 𝘍𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘈𝘓 𝘋𝘌𝘚𝘐𝘎𝘕 𝘐𝘕𝘚𝘐𝘋𝘌 𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘊𝘖𝘜𝘕𝘛𝘠 𝘑𝘈𝘐𝘓 on July 11th from 6-9pm. \nThe project is centered around a series of Floral Therapy workshops with Chesterfield County Jail’s nationally recognized recovery program\, H.A.R.P. (Helping Addicts Recover Progressively)\, led by horticultural therapist\, psychotherapist\, and clinical social worker Becca Amos and floral designer Meredith Wheeler of Secret Flowers. \nThe exhibition features photographs by Amy Robison and Sydnee Schorr including process photography\, portraits\, and completed floral arrangements. It presents first-hand participant accounts and explores how creative\, nature-based interventions can foster emotional expression and individual and collective healing—even in the most restrictive environment. And it invites a broader conversation about the systems that sever people from nature and the possibilities for therapeutic practice in carceral spaces. \n100% OF PROCEEDS FROM THIS EXHIBITION WILL BE DONATED TO THE H.A.R.P. RVA RECOVERY PROGRAM.  The exhibit is on view July 11th – July 19th.
